“La Vie En Rose” launch party at Wedspring in San Francisco.

Inspired by the film and St. Germain (the featured liqueur of the party), the desserts had floral, rosey-hued flair…

  1. Layer Cake #1: St. Germain-infused white cake filled with St. Germain pastry cream, fresh strawberries and St. Germain buttercream, tinted pale pink with beet juice
  2. Layer Cake #2: Velvet cake flecked with grated red beet, filled and finished with cream cheese frosting
  3. Bite-size french macarons filled with St. Germain buttercream

I made this cake last month for a friend’s 40th birthday.

She requested carrot and this is what she got:

6 layers of rainbow carrot cake + cara cara orange curd + cream cheese frosting + pistachios + candied carrots

Between the jewel-like candied carrots twirling over the top like streamers and flecks of earthy colors from the purple and red carrots, the cake was a party on the inside and out.

Fitting for this birthday girl, I think…

Certain occasions (and new arrivals) call for baby cakes…

Better late than never, Lily Brittingham was born on 1.17.2013 and by a complete stroke of luck, I met her on her 1 month birthday. Perfect timing, no?

The pale pink buttercream on Lily’s cake was tinted with a few drops of beet reduction.

The white cake was a tasting for a new wedding concierge service in San Francisco that I’ll be working with called WedSpring.

When life gives me lemons, I bake.

Fortunately, my stylist has a sweet tooth, so I bartered one of these cakes for my new bangs. The other went to a birthday. Two worthy cake causes, in my opinion, plus one happier baker, lemons and all.

Et voila… two square cakes of the citrus variety, featuring:

meyer lemon cake layers + kaffir lime pastry cream + lemon buttercream + candied citrus slices

vanilla bean macaron + elderberry buttercream
